5 Seattle art shows to see during Pride month 2024

”The past, present and future of art is powerfully and inextricably linked with the creative contributions of LGBTQ+ artists who have used art for self-expression, advocacy and social critique. During this year’s Pride month in June, numerous art exhibitions serve up vibrant opportunities to celebrate artists’ perspectives on queer identity, history and culture. Here are some noteworthy exhibitions to experience.
In the realm of solo shows, Clyde Petersen’s wide-ranging, creative practice has now produced serigraphs (screen prints) that speak tenderly and amusingly of personal and collective queer histories. Petersen is a transgender artist, musician, animator, illustrator and filmmaker who works in a variety of media from his home on Guemes Island in Skagit County. The eclectic prints in this exhibition, titled “Naive Melody,” explore middle school memories, the legacy of queer elders and his love of “Star Trek.” Bonus: Petersen’s band, Your Heart Breaks, will perform at the June 29 reception from 2 to 4 p.m. with guest cellist Lori Goldston…”
