QUIET MOMENTS…
GALA BENT, ANNE HIRONDELLE,
& ELLEN GEORGE
JANUARY 6 - FEBRUARY 5, 2022
OPENING RECEPTION - THURSDAY JANUARY 6, 5-8PM
J. Rinehart Gallery announces our exhibition of Quiet Moments… grouping together three PNW artists, Gala Bent, Anne Hirondelle, and Ellen George. The collection of works in Quiet Moments… are a visual calm and reflective breath of fresh air after a hectic season. Each artist explores the largeness and the smallness of quiet, reflective, and intimate moments in her own way. An investigation into the stillness of our surroundings, the work is replicant of nature while simultaneously reflective of our inner self, causing one to look inward and outward in the same quiet moment. The wild collective of matter, stillness, and expansiveness is viewed through line, shape — atoms that come together.
Gala Bent’s works on paper captivate big concepts and are aligned with a certain tenderness of observation and a meditation on the wordless expanses of both outer and inner space. Anne Hirondelle’s work is accomplished through the delicate folding of tracing paper, exhibiting the intricacy and translucency in her fragile forms. The resulting forms bely their fragility with an underlying strength. Ellen George’s small sculptures and birch wood paintings live in a hand held scale, showing humanness within what is standing still. It’s a durational process; gently working each lump until, suddenly it seems, the form resists any further contouring. Time runs out. In drawing an immutable metalpoint line, or watching a wash of color flow and settle, there is a sense of time stopping, a silence. But this is temporary, transitional, as the stop reveals itself to be a pause. These exquisite works all fitting into the still universe of Quiet Moments…
