KELDA MARTENSEN | FAMILIAR REASONS TO LET GO

KELDA MARTENSEN
FAMILIAR REASONS TO LET GO

J. Rinehart Gallery announces our first exhibition of 2021, Familiar Reasons to Let Go, a series of new works on paper by collage artist, printmaker and educator Kelda Martensen. Familiar Reasons to Let Go will be on view online and in the gallery, January 9 – February 13, 2021.

Virtual live-streamed opening reception with the artist will be held on Friday January 8, 2020 from 5-6pm at www.jrinehartgallery.com

Familiar Reasons to Let Go aims to be a visual journal – a way of note taking – on play and finding a focus and momentum during a tumultuous time of solitude and isolation. Martensen uses this body of work to connect, rather than stand apart from others. Shapes and textures invite the viewer to recall concepts, imagery, and conversations that are universal; moon, dirt, fire, smoke, flower, rock, sea, tree, earth. Small gestures hint at a larger universe and become the Familiar Reasons to Let Go.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a digital catalog will be published with an essay written by arts writer and editor Lauren Gallow.
