JAZZ BROWN
INTIMACY AWARE
AUGUST 14 - SEPTEMBER 11, 2021
OPENING RECEPTION - AUGUST 14th, 2-5 PM
ARTIST MEET & GREET - AUGUST 28th, 1-4PM
Intimacy Aware, in the simplest words, is a love letter to love. By way of color and curve, it examines both the condition of disremembered grace and the delightfulness of being remembered. Each of the six main paintings serve as metaphor for that beyond the recorded and uttered word. Interconnected cycles effortlessly unfold in a florid dance. The titles jocularly turn degradation inside out, revealing one’s indestructible true nature. Limitation gives way to the infinite.
The most ambitious project in this body of work is an assemblage of forty compositions, inspired by a renewed attraction to the game of chess during the pandemic, uniting the worlds of art and game. These works are made and remade as he collages together paintings that he has deconstructed.
Jazz Brown is an autodidact who uses acrylic paint to create vivid, expressive compositions. Described as a philosophical painter, Brown’s work has been exhibited at CoCA, Bellevue Art Museum and Martyr Sauce and was featured in the 2018 City Arts Future List. Intimacy Aware is his first solo exhibition at J. Rinehart Gallery.
